JD Wetherspoon Continues Its Irish Expansion

JD Wetherspoon has confirmed that it has secured its third site in Ireland.

The company has purchased a disused pub, The Forty Foot in Dun Laoghaire. There had been speculation for some months that this might be an attractive purchase for Wetherspoon's, given its central location in the town and its close proximity to public transport links and the theatre. It also offers stunning views over the harbour. The pub, which is located on Marine Road, has been empty for more than a year.

The announcement comes as Wetherspooon's today opened its first pub in Ireland, The Three Tun Tavern in Blackrock, Dublin. The company also has another site in Cork which is due to open in the coming months.

Wetherspoon’s regional manager for Ireland, Alistair Broome, said: “We are delighted to have purchased the former pub in Dun Laoghaire.

“We are looking forward to redeveloping the site and creating new jobs in the area.”

Wetherspoon's plans to open 50 pubs around Ireland in the next 10 years.
