Michelin Stars For Irish Restaurants To Be Named On 2 October

Irish restaurants will learn on Monday 2 October whether they will one of the the elite food businesses to receive a prestigious Michelin Star for 2018.

The unveiling of the new Stars for the UK and Ireland will take place at a live event at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London, on that date.

The latest Stars will coincide with the publication of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2018 and it is expected to attract top chefs and key food industry figures and influencers. Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides, will announce the news live on stage.

Ellis said: "This is the second time that Michelin Stars have been revealed at a live event since the Michelin Guide to the British Isles was introduced in 1911, so we are very excited.

"The Michelin Guide was first published in 1900 to show motorists where they could find great food and accommodation as well as essentials like tyres, and it has gone on to become a global benchmark for dining quality.

"We are proud of that heritage, but we are also proud that we are more relevant today than ever before. Our clients value our consistency, our independence and our expertise, and we will continue to reflect the changing face of eating out in Great Britain and Ireland."

More than 3,000 places to eat and sleep are recommended in The Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland. This includes restaurants and pubs awarded Michelin Stars for the quality of their food and Bib Gourmands - which are awarded to eateries offering particularly good value.

Rebecca Burr, Editor of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland, added: "It is always incredibly exciting to see the ever-evolving food landscape of Great Britain and Ireland. It is rich and diverse, and there is real talent coming through which is putting both countries firmly on the global culinary map.

"The Michelin Guide caters for every type of customer, whether that’s a business traveller, couples dining out or families on holiday. Michelin inspectors will continue to make anonymous visits and to pay their own bills, and we will continue to offer expert, objective and consistent information to our readers."

Last year, Heron & Grey in Blackrock Market, Dublin, was the only new Irish restaurant to win a star.
