FSAI Serves One Closure Order And One Prohibition Order In January

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has reported that one Closure Order and one Prohibition Order were served on food businesses throughout January for breaches of food safety legislation.

Under the FSAI Act, 1998, a Closure order was served on Earl’s Delicatessen, located in the School of Architecture, University College Dublin.

The other closure was under the EC Regulations, 2010, and was served on Sheahan’s Butchers of Church Street, Caherciveen, Co. Kerry.

There were also two successful prosecutions in January. These were carried out by the HSE on: Kelleghan Catering Food Stall, Main Street, Tallow, Waterford; and Millbridge Meats (butcher), 3A Millbridge Court, Kilmacrennan, Donegal.

Dr. Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive of FSAI, commented that, “Food businesses must recognise that the legal onus is on them to make sure that the food they sell or serve is safe to eat.”

She added, “If any food business owner is unsure of what is required of them by law, they can contact the FSAI advice line at [email protected] or visit its website www.fsai.ie or Facebook page.”
