Fáilte Ireland To Invest €2.3m In Interactive Tourist Experiences

Fáilte Ireland has announced that cutting-edge technology and interactive experiences will be unveiled at visitor attractions across Ireland's Ancient East over the coming months, following a €2.3 million investment from the national tourism development authority.

The first of 19 projects has just opened at Bishop's Palace in Waterford. Called "Masterpieces in Glass", it is a 4D experience that brings the history of glassmaking in Waterford to life through augmented reality technology that allows visitors to explore rare objects used in glassmaking in the county over the past three centuries.

"Fundamental In Developing Tourism In Waterford"

Welcoming the Fáilte Ireland investment, minister of state at the department of business, enterprise and innovation, and Waterford T.D., John Halligan said, "Investment like this from Fáilte Ireland has been fundamental in developing tourism in Waterford, and I look forward to seeing more innovative projects like this opening over the coming year."

"A Significant Impact On Tourism"

Meanwhile, head of Ireland's Ancient East at Fáilte Ireland, Jenny De Saulles, commented, "The Ireland's Ancient East regional experience brand is driving a more regional spread of visitors, and is making a significant impact on tourism across the east of the country, delivering increased visitor numbers and creating jobs. Central to this has been the creation of compelling and world-class visitor experiences that attract international tourists actively looking for hands-on ways to discover local and heritage."

"Testament To What Can Be Achieved"

De Saulles added, "What is most valuable to visitors is the chance to participate, and not simply be bystanders. At Fáilte Ireland, we are always looking for opportunities to stimulate the development of brilliant visitor experiences, and the 'Masterpieces in Glass' experience is testament to what can be achieved through investment and innovation. This is just one of 19 projects set to open following funding from our Ireland’s Ancient East Storytelling Interpretation grants scheme. Each project brings to life local heritage culture, and will really help to transform the tourism appeal of each area."

The "Masterpieces in Glass" visitor experience was co-funded by Fáilte Ireland, which contributed €200,000 to help its development, and Waterford City & County Council, working with local creative agency Emagine.
