Marriott Says 5.2m Guests Exposed In New Data Breach

Marriott International Inc has said that the information of approximately 5.2 million hotel guests has been breached.

This the second such incident for the hotel operator in less than two years.

Marriott said that the breached information, which includes contact details, loyalty account information and additional personal details such as gender and birthdays, may have been accessed using the login credentials of two employees at a franchise property.

The company also said that information such as account passwords, payment card information and passport information was not a part of the breach.

Marriott said that it is currently investigating the incident, which it believed started in mid-January and was identified around February end.

Starwood Database Incident

In November 2018, Marriott said that its Starwood guest reservation database had been breached, potentially exposing information about approximately 500 million guests.
