Over the past 12 months, planning applications connected to 349 projects in Ireland's hotel and leisure sector have been lodged.
That's according to a report which appears in today's Irish Independent. The paper says that research undertaken by Construction Information Services (CIS) estimates that if all of these projects were to be completed, along with some outstanding 2012 applications which were given the green light, it could generate more than €300 million worth of building work.
CIS believe the applications over the past year could be worth €218 million in construction work alone.
Only two of the 349 applications over the past year are major hotel developments, an €8.65 million new hotel in Camden Street, Dublin, and a €12.9 million new hotel on Ormonde Quay, also in the capital.
The number of hotel and leisure sector planning applications is lower than the 379 applied for in 2012, but the value is higher than the €175 million. worth sought then.
The largest project on CIS's planning list is Urbanest's application to build a €36 million student complex at Sir John Rogerson Quay, Dublin 2. This week, An Bord Plaeanala refused planning permission for 313 room project, but the developer will have the chance to revamp its application.
The Independent also notes that leisure projects in the pipeline include the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council's €4 million Samuel Beckett Civic Campus in Ballyogan, near The Park retail park, and a €1.7 million refurbishment of the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin's Liberties.
