Diageo Announces Changes To Its Board Of Directors

Diageo has announced that Lord Mervyn Davies of Abersoch will retire as a non-executive director on June 30, 2020, and Sir John Manzoni will become a non-executive director on October 1.

Lord Davies joined Diageo's board of directors on September 1, 2010. During his tenure, he also acted as chair of the remuneration committee and senior independent director.

In addition to becoming a non-executive director, Manzoni join Diageo's audit, nomination and remuneration committees on appointment.

Manzoni recently stepped down from the role of chief executive of the civil service and permanent secretary to the cabinet office in the UK, having performed that role from 2014. Manzoni also previously served as the president and CEO of Talisman Energy in Canada from 2007 to 2012, and, before joining Talisman, worked for BP from 1983 to 2007 in various roles, including chief executive of gas & power and chief executive of refining & marketing.

Additionally, Manzoni served as a non-executive director of SAB Miller plc from 2004 to 2014.

"Very Grateful"

Diageo chairman Javier Ferrán stated, "I am very grateful for the wise guidance which Mervyn has provided to Diageo during his time as a non-executive director and as senior independent director, and for his counsel to me as incoming chairman in 2016. The board has benefited from his extensive experience, both in industry and in government affairs. He has made a valuable contribution to board discussions, developed good relationships across the business and made a strong contribution to our governance and decision-making processes during his tenure. We thank Mervyn for all he has done for Diageo over the last 10 years.

"I am very pleased that John will be joining the Diageo board later this year. John's commercial acumen and business knowledge together with his more recent experience combined with his previous non-executive director role in the beverage industry will bring unique insight and expertise to the discussions at the Diageo board. I look forward to John's contribution as we progress to achieving our ambition to become one of the most trusted and respected consumer products companies in the world."
