DkIT Students Win Awards At Chef Ireland 2020 Competition

Two Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) Culinary Arts students received gold and silver medals along with "Best in Class" accolades at this year's Chef Ireland 2020 competition, which took place at Food & Bev Live in Dublin's Citywest Hotel last week.

Second year students Ryan Dowling from Shercock, Co. Cavan, and Van Phouc Le from Dundalk, Co. Louth, won the gold award and a "Best in Class" accolade in the Junior Fish Competition for their dish of brill, cauliflower and mussel ragu.

The pair also won a silver medal and a "Best in Class" accolade in the Junior Lamb competition.

"A Great Experience"

Dowling commented, "We only had two weeks to prepare for the competition and it was a great experience competing against our peers from all over the country. We received great support from our fellow students at DkIT, but especially from our wonderful lecturers. Alan McCabe and Michael McNamara mentored us for the competitions and we couldn't be anymore grateful for their time, effort and support."

Additionally, second year student Conor Farrell won a silver medal and a "Best in Class" accolade for his cold display Sacher Torte.
