Artefacts Related To Michael Collins's Death Go On Display At Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham Gaol Museum is displaying a number of artefacts connected with Michael Collins and his death at Béal na Blá to mark the centenary of his assassination, which occurred on 22 August 1922, according to a statement published on Gov.ie, which said that a number of the items belonged to Lady Hazel Lavery, including a note that Collins wrote on the day he was killed but that was never sent.

Personal Items

That note was among a number of personal items that Collins's sister, Johanna, sent to Lavery following his death, with the other items including the scapular that Collins was wearing when he died, a lock of his hair and a letter from Sir Shane Leslie to Sir John Lavery that was found on Collins's person after his death, according to the statement published on Gov.ie.

Other Items

The statement published on Gov.ie added that the display also features a number of other significant items connected with Collins including the military stick that formed part of his uniform as a general in the new Irish army, and the Museum also holds a silver-backed hairbrush inscribed with his signature that he was gifted by his fiancée, Kitty Kiernan.
