Dublin Voted 'Second Friendliest City' by Prestigious Travel Guide

Dublin has been voted as the second-friendliest city in the world, according to readers of the renowned travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

Ireland's capital finished second only to Sydney in this year's Readers' Choice Survey published by the travel guide, up three spots from 2014 when it finished in fifth.

It is another accolade for the city on the international scene, just one week after being voted as the "favourite worldwide city" by US travel publication trazeetravel.com.

Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said that the friendly nature of Irish people is one of the "unique selling points" of Irish tourism.

"It is the warm welcome and the ‘craic’ here that resonates with our overseas visitors and makes Dublin and Ireland such a great choice for a short break or holiday," said Gibbons, adding that the award gives Tourism Ireland a "wonderful platform" to promote Dublin and Ireland as a tourist destination.

Some comments about the city from Condé Nast readers included: “The people make the place" here, with "pubs and restaurants filled with locals and tourists alike, coming together to celebrate life.  Also: "The Irish are so much fun," and "there's always a smiling face to talk to."

2. Dublin, Ireland
3. Queenstown, New Zealand
4. Kraków, Poland
5. Bruges, Belgium
6. Edinburgh, Scotland
7. Kyoto, Japan
8. Budapest, Hungary
