Fáilte Ireland Authority Selects Tom Coughlan As Interim Chair

The national tourism development authority of Fáilte Ireland has selected Tom Coughlan to serve as its interim chair.

Ongoing Selection Process

Coughlan will serve as interim chair until Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin TD appoints a chairperson, following the conclusion of the selection process, which is ongoing at present.

Extensive Public-Sector Management And Leadership Experience

Coughlan has been a member of the Fáilte Ireland authority since 2018 and has extensive senior public-sector management and leadership experience.

Work With Local Authorities And Tourism-Related Developments

Coughlan has worked in a number of local authorities, including as chief executive of Clare County Council, and he has been involved in a wide range of tourism-related developments.

Chairperson And Non-Executive Director Roles

He was appointed to the authority of Fáilte Ireland in 2018 and is chairperson of its investment committee. He is currently the chairperson of the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal and served previously as chairperson of the Health and Safety Authority (2016-23). Coughlan is also a non-executive director of EirGrid Plc and SONI (NI) and has served as non-executive director of the Shannon Group Plc and the Shannon Airport Authority.

Bachelor Of Arts, Professional Certificate And Harvard Programme

Coughlan has a Bachelor of Arts in public administration and a professional certificate in corporate governance, and he has completed the Senior Executive Leadership Programme at Harvard University.
