Ryanair Joins Legal Action Surrounding New Runway At Dublin Airport

Ryanair has become involved in legal actions over the extension of planning permission for the construction of a €320 million new runway at Dublin Airport.

The airline decided to join the proceedings due to its assertion that any further expansion by Ryanair at the airport will be limited without the addition of a new runway.

As reported by breakingnews.ie, the proceedings were launched by the Friends of the Irish Environment Group alongside 22 individual residents from communities in close proximity to the airport in a bid to prevent Fingal County Council from extending planning permission for the runway, which is due to expire in August.

Ryanair's director of operations, Adrian Dunne, stated that the airline has a significant interest in the runway's development and declared that its construction would also benefit the state as a whole. He added that if built, the runway would reduce taxi times for aircraft, leading to less unnecessary fuel burn, thereby lowering carbon emissions and noise associated with increased taxi times.

The case is due to heard by the Commerical Court this October.
