Tourism Ireland Pushes Northern Ireland As Golfing Holiday Destination

Tourism Ireland has enlisted the aid of a group of international journalists to attract golf tourists to Northern Ireland from Canada, the UK, France and Germany.

The journalists, who recently travelled to Northern Ireland to attend the Northern Ireland Open at Galgorm Castle, were hosted by Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI during their stay. In addition to watching the tournament, the group played a game of their own on the Strand Course at Portstewart Golf Club, as well as trying out the golfing facilities at both Galgorm Castle and Royal Portrush.

Promoting golf in Northern Ireland is a major focus for Tourism Ireland in Britain and other important golf markets around the world. The association is pledging to take every opportunity to highlight The Open coming to Royal Portrush in 2019, which will provide a platform to showcase Northern Ireland as a golfing holiday destination to potential golf tourists worldwide once again.

Tourism Ireland’s director of markets, Siobhan McManamy, stated, “We were delighted to invite these leading golf journalists to Northern Ireland, to experience some of our top courses for themselves. Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme of promotions underway to highlight our world-class golf and encourage more people to consider a golfing holiday in Northern Ireland. Golf is the world’s largest sports-related travel market and we are working hard to drive home the message that a golfing holiday in Northern Ireland is about much more than a round of 18 holes. The combination of our world-class courses and our unique brand of hospitality plays a key role in attracting golfers.”
