Dromoland Castle Objects to Applegreen Service Stop

The Dromoland Castle Hotel is seeking to block plans by forecourt operator Applegreen to build a service stop on the Limerick-Ennis motorway.

The five-star hotel in Co. Clare has made its objection to An Bord Pleanála. According to the Irish Examiner, the hotel says granting Applegreen permission to build a service station so close to a similar Supermac's site could lead to a proliferation in the area.

It added that an extra site could lead to driver confusion on the M18 route due to an increased amount of similar road signage.

Fast food outlet Supermac's secured permission for a service stop in January, just 6km away from the proposed Applegreen site. After Clare County Council refused planning to Applegreen last year, the company appealed the decision due to Supermac's success.

Dromoland is seeking to block the plans, to ensure consistency in similar future decisions from the Clare County Council.
