Dublin Hotel Prices Hit 11-Month Low

Prices for the average hotel room in Dublin are at their lowest for 11 months, according to hotel search site trivago.ie.

Trivago's latest Hotel Price Index (tHPI) showed the average cost of a room in the capital is €112 in January, down 15 per cent from €132 in December, meaning prices in Dublin hit their lowest rate since February last year, when the price of an average room was €108.

However, despite this, prices are up 17 per cent year-on-year, compared to €96 in January 2015.

Meanwhile, prices across Ireland have fallen by five per cent compared to last month, with the average hotel room costing €93 in January, compared to €98 in December 2015. Prices are up six per cent year-on-year, compared to €88 in January 2015.

Outside of Dublin, the largest month-on-month decreases were found in Kinsale (€88, down 15 per cent from €103 in December), Cork (€95, down 11 per cent from €107 in December) and Dingle (€84, down 11 per cent from €94 in December).

Elsewhere, Westport saw the largest month-on-month increase in January, with prices up to €96, which is nine per cent higher than in December, when the average room cost €88.

 Hotel prices have fallen across Europe in January, according to Trivago. Based on the 50 most popular European cities, hotel prices have dropped by an average of five per cent in comparison to December 2015.

 The biggest decreases in comparison to December are found in Dresden (-26%), Manchester (-22%) and London (-20%).
