Paddy McKillen Jr's Dublin Docklands Hotel Development Gets Green Light

A new six-storey, 60-bedroom hotel has been given the go-ahead for development on Dublin's North Wall Quay.

Oakmount, which was founded in 2010 by Paddy McKillen jnr and Matt Ryan, will be converting a derelict site into a 60-bedroom hotel with a rooftop bar and restaurant, ground floor bar and restaurant, coffee and shop as well as terrace.

The North Wall Quay property was estimated to have cost €5 million when acquired in 2015 and around €10 million is expected to be invested into it, reports The Irish Times.

The group has also received permission to restore the 81 North Wall Quay building back into its previous use as a pub. The planned development will include the reinstatement of a garden at the rear of the hotel and joining the two buildings internally at ground floor level

Oakmount, whose portfolio includes The Dean Hotel as well as a new boutique hotel in Ranelagh that is to be completed by late 2017, will begin construction within three months and plan to open the hotel by the end of 2018.

Dublin's north docklands area is classified as a Strategic Development Zone, allowing for fast-track planning with no third party planning objection, which has resulted in it becoming an increasingly active development area for companies.
