The Lidl sponsored Taste of Success TV show has announced Padraig McCarthy, a Limerick chef, as winner for his Irish beef short ribs and pancetta and cider sauce, which will now be sold in stores.
McCarthy won €100,000 prize money and a listing across Lidl’s 140 stores in Ireland.
McCarthy said, “The show was great; meeting people from so many backgrounds with such a wide range of products. It really highlighted the food talent and the quality of food we have in this country.”
Lidl will now license the product from McCarthy, and work on production, manufacturing and distribution. Liam Casey, associate director of purchasing from Lidl said, “We are fully confident, that in Padraig’s beef ribs, we have the right product. It tastes fantastic, is made with quality Irish beef and we have no doubt that this will be a fantastic addition to our Heat Eat and Enjoy range.”
The RTÉ show ran for eight weeks and had an average of over 340,000 people watching the first six episodes.
