Plans Progessing On £23m Armagh Gaol Hotel Development

The UK-based Osborne Group have applied to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for Listed Building Consent to develop a £23 million Gaol Hotel in Armagh.

According to armaghi.com, the group was granted regular planning permission for the proposed hotel just over four years ago, but was still required to submit a special listed building request due to the Gaol's historic status.

Osborne group owner Trevor Osborne had previously called the financial feasibility of the project into question, asserting that it could not proceed until such a time as the Northern Irish government's "commitment is quantified and finalised." However, the application for Listed Building Consent represents a firmer commitment on the group's behalf to making the hotel a reality.

The proposed hotel would include 32 apartments, seven retail units and a spa, and would generate 350 new jobs for the area.
