300-Seater Glass Rooftop Restaurant For Former Central Bank

Following the news that refurbishment works had commenced at the former Central Bank on Dublin's Dame Street last month, it's now been announced that global real estate investment firm Hines are applying for planning permission to completely overhaul the building's rooftop and surrounding plaza.

As reported by 98fm.com, Hines wishes to invest €70 million into developing a two-storey, 300-seat rooftop restaurant on the premises with 360 degree views of the city.

The company's plans for the property also include the creation of a café, offices and retails units, both at street level and in the basement. Hines has dubbed the endeavour "Central Plaza".

Commenting on the company's plans, Hines spokesperson Brian Moran said, "Another key aspect of the proposal is the enhancement of the existing plaza that surrounds the building. Upon completion of the redevelopment works, the area will re-open to the public and with the removal of the railings installed in 1998, the plaza will become a larger and even more vibrant public space."

It is hoped that work on Central Plaza will be complete by December of 2018.
