Powerscourt Distillery Wins World Whiskies Awards Gold Award In 'Single Malt' Category

Co. Wicklow's Powerscourt Distillery has won a World Whiskies Awards gold award in the "Single Malt" category for its Fercullen "Five Elements" 18 year old single malt limited release.

The World Whiskies Awards is an annual celebration of the very best in whiskies from across the globe. Presented by TheDrinksReport.com and Whisky Magazine, the World Whiskies Awards selects, rewards and promotes the world's best whiskies.

"Delighted"

Powerscourt Distillery stated, "Hundreds of Irish whiskeys were considered for the ultimate title of 'World's Best', and we are delighted to achieve a gold medal in this extremely competitive 'Single Malt (13-20)' category. This single malt was selected by the judging panel for its signature taste. [Powerscourt Distillery master distiller & blender] Noel [Sweeney] applied his vast experience to ensure different proportions of each style to lend balance and expression to the Five Elements within the limited release of only 1,500 bottles, producing a truly complex, flavoursome and unique tasting whiskey, which has now been recognised among the finest whiskies in the world with a gold medal."

Powerscourt Distillery added, "Launched in time for the Christmas market on November 12th, 2020, this limited edition 18 year old single malt Fercullen Five Elements expression was eagerly anticipated and certainly hit the right note with Fercullen fans, selling out of the initial release allocation."

"Something Truly Special"

Sweeney commented, "A unique whiskey is always a pleasure to develop. Working to distil, mature, finish, blend and balance this rare composite expression represents years of experience and patience required to bring all the elements together forming something truly special, and we are delighted that our Fercullen Irish Whiskeys continue to be recognised amongst the best Irish whiskeys in the world."
