RAI Search for Ireland's Ultimate Foodie Town

By Steve Wynne-Jones

The Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) have launched the search for Ireland’s premier foodie destination.

The ‘Foodie Towns 2015’ competition, now in its second year, will see towns from all over Ireland vie to become the top destination for the foodie experience.

The entries will be judged on criteria such as the food festivals held there, great dining experiences, local producers and suppliers, and the town's growth and investment. Education, training, development and employment will be key components of the ultimate foodie destination.

Applicants must submit their entry by downloading the form from the website and submitting it before 7 September. A shortlist of ten locations will then be announced and the winner will be decided by independent assessors and a public vote - each counting for 50 per cent of the overall score.

Popular tourist location Dingle in Co. Kerry scooped the award in 2014 and Anthony Gray, president of the RAI, expects the competition level to increase this year.

“All over Ireland, local community initiatives are shaping the food, hospitality and tourism industry at ground level. This is our opportunity to recognise these towns and communities for the amazing work they are doing to put Ireland at the forefront of culinary tourism," said Gray.

The ultimate ‘Foodie Town 2015’ will be announced in October. Visit the website here: www.foodietowns.ie.
