Number Of Passengers Handled By Ireland's Main Airports Rose YOY In 2021

According to newly-published data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the number of passengers handled by Ireland's main airport increased by 10% year-on-year last year.

Total Number Of Passengers

In a statement published on its website, the CSO said that the total number of passengers handled by Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Knock and Kerry airports increased to 9,132,341 last year from 8,293,330 the previous year.

December Year-On-Year Data

The number of people who passed through Ireland's main airports increased over fourfold year-on-year in December of 2021, according to the CSO's data.

Comparison To Pre-COVID-19 Pandemic 2019

However, the number of passengers handled by Ireland's main airports last year was 76% lower than the number recorded for pre-COVID-19 pandemic 2019, with the number of people who passed through them in December of 2021 being 48.9% lower than the number recorded for December of 2019, according to the CSO's data.

Dublin Airport Month-On-Month Data

Additionally, the number of people who passed through Dublin Airport in December of 2021 decreased 14.8% month-on-month, according to the CSO's data.

Statistician Statement

Statistician Nele van der Wielen said in a statement published on the CSO's website, "In 2021, 9.1 million passengers passed through Irish airports compared with 8.3 million in 2020 and 38.1 million passengers in 2019."

Dublin Airport Passenger Traffic Statistics For 2021

The above news follows last week's news that Dublin Airport has published its passenger traffic statistics for last year on its website, revealing that the number of people who passed through the airport rose by 14% year-on-year in 2021 to 8.46 million.
