365-Room Motel One Hotel Planned For Dublin's Abbey Street

After signalling its intention to enter the Irish market earlier this year, German budget boutique hotel chain Motel One has moved a step closer to that goal after agreeing a deal to operate a planned 365-room hotel on Dublin's Abbey Street.

Noel Smyth's Fitzwilliam Real Estate Properties, which is planning to build the new property, has sought planning permission for a nine-storey hotel development on land it held on to as part of a deal to sell Arnotts in 2015, reports thetimes.co.uk.

"This proposed development would ensure the regeneration of an underutilised brownfield urban site in the heart of the city, in an area which has suffered from dereliction," said Alannah Smyth of Fitzwilliam Real Estate Properties.

Motel One was founded in Munich by Dieter Müller in 2000 and currently operates 57 properties across Europe with over 15,000 bedrooms.

"It is one of the most exciting cities in Europe and this is the perfect location for our brand," said Stefan Lenze, head of development at Motel One, about Dublin's hotel market.
