All Regions Showed Year-On-Year Decrease In Hotel Pipeline Activity At End Of Second Quarter, Says STR

According to a statement published on the website of hotel industry market data company STR, each of the four world regions showed a year-over-year decrease in hotel pipeline activity at the end of the second quarter, according to June 2022 data from STR.

Europe

According to the statement published on STR.com, in June of this year (percentage changes are in comparison with June of last year) there were 207,315 rooms in construction in Europe (-12.6%), with 150,164 rooms in final planning (-15.2%), 163,380 rooms in planning (+10.6%) and 520,589 rooms in total under contract (-7.4%), and Germany (40,729) and the UK (28,612) lead Europe in total rooms in construction.

Asia Pacific

According to the statement published on STR.com, in June of this year there were 486,412 rooms in construction in the Asia Pacific region (+2.1%), with 128,808 rooms in final planning (-29.0%), 302,499 rooms in planning (+11.5%) and 917,719 rooms in total under contract (-1.2%), and, among countries in the region, China has the most rooms in construction (308,062), followed by Vietnam (31,161).

Middle East And Africa

According to the statement published on STR.com, in June of this year there were 127,397 rooms in construction in the Middle East and Africa (-6.2%), with 37,143 rooms in final planning (-18.0%), 73,096 rooms in planning (+26.1%) and 237,636 rooms in total under contract (-0.6%), and Saudi Arabia (37,654) and United Arab Emirates (31,671) lead in construction activity.

Americas

According to the statement published on STR.com, in June of this year there were 202,250 rooms in construction in the Americas, (-16.9%), 208,583 rooms in final planning (-14.4%), 328,944 rooms (+10.4%) in planning and 739,777 rooms in total under contract (-5.8%), and the US holds the majority of rooms in construction in the region, with Mexico (14,909) and Canada (7,232) having the highest number of rooms in construction in the region after the US.
