Pizza Is Most Popular Food To Eat While Watching Football In Ireland, According To Deliveroo Survey

Pizza is the most popular food to eat while watching a football match in Ireland, and beer is the most popular beverage to drink while watching a match, according to a new Deliveroo survey.

Survey Results

Deliveroo stated, "The summer of football has finally arrived and, according to a Deliveroo survey of 500 Irish football fans, Irish fans will be tuning in as much as ever.

"25% of people plan on watching every match of the European tournament, while over 40% will watch as many as they can. That’s dedication. Of course, there will always be fair-weather fans with 10% of viewers in Ireland only planning to watch matches played by their favourite team.

"Findings showed that 25% of Irish spectators would prefer to share their takeaway with the Italians above any other nation. 23% would watch and share food with the Scottish; 22% would watch with Spanish football fans while only 19% would like to share a Deliveroo with the English.

"67% of respondents will be watching the tournament at home, while 33% have had enough of their own sofa and plan on enjoying a match in one of the 4,000 pubs with outdoor facilities that reopened across the country earlier this month. Beer taps at the ready!

"While we're on the topic of beer, it is the tipple of choice for celebrations and commiserations alike. 45% of those surveyed take the edge off a defeat with a nice cold pint, while 45% also indulge in a brewski to celebrate a big win.

"Any self-respecting footy fanatic knows that it's all about the snacks though. Pizza is the favourite for match night munchies by a country mile with an impressive 45% favouring the Za. Burgers came in second with a respectable 15%. Surprisingly, burritos, which frequently poll as the most ordered dish in Ireland, don't do it for football lovers. Only 5% of those surveyed chow down on the Mexican speciality during nail biting matches."

Deliveroo Representative Statement

Arabella Jenkins of Deliveroo stated, "No matter what you like to tuck into on match night, Deliveroo will be on hand with top tier picks to make the summer of football extra special. Keep an eye on our app to see what our incredible restaurant partners are cooking up!"

Victory For Boojum

Deliveroo added, "And last but not least, on July 15th 2018, during another summer of football, thousands of Irish people watched and ate while France and Croatia battled it out for the World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia. France won, but the winner of the most ordered food for World Cup watchers went to Mexico, with Boojum at the top of the leaderboard!"
