Hotel Business Boosted By North American And European Visitors

The Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) has revealed that business in the country's hotel sector has been boosted by an increasing number of visitors from North America and continental Europe while noting that the volume of UK visitors remains a "significant concern".

As reported by The Irish Times, an IHF survey found that 70% of Irish hoteliers recorded a rise in business, but one in five reported that advance bookings for the rest of the summer are lower than last year, which has been attributed to an anecdotal fall in business from the UK.

The volume of visitors from mainland Europe, on the other hand, rose 5% to 3.25 million last year, with the number of North American tourists rising 16% to 1.7 million. Meanwhile, the IHF said that the domestic market remains buoyant, with 60% of hoteliers reporting a rise in Irish business compared to the previous year.
