Residents Object To New Restaurant/Bar Development In Temple Bar

The Temple Bar Residents’ group (TBR) has objected to plans to convert the Eager Beaver clothing shop, on the corner of Crown Alley and Cope Street, into a two-storey restaurant and cafe-bar.

According to TheTimes.co.uk, the plans for the proposed venue were submitted by Eager Beaver owners Robert and Siobhán Woodnutt. However, TBR has taken issue with the proposal on the grounds that there is already “one acre of drinking space in the area”.

TBR has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála in the hopes of reversing the decision made by Dublin City Council to give the development the green light.

Elaborating on the group’s protests, TBR spokesperson Declan O’Brien, said, “Nobody could argue that there is a shortage of cafes, bars and restaurants in the Temple Bar area, and especially within a 100-metre radius of this premises.”

O’Brien went on to explain that TBR, which represents approximately 2,300 people living in the vicinity, is appealing to An Bord Pleanála to prevent the development, in a bid to protect residential amenities and ensure a more balanced mix of uses in the Temple Bar area.
